Hello Taney Families!
As
the calendar flips to March it’s inevitable that Taney Basketball
season is nearing conclusion. And with it comes the end of Taney for my
son, Marino, and for me. Saying goodbye to many friends we’ve made
along the way is far more bitter than sweet. The wins and the losses are
insignificant. The milestones and happy moments along the way are
everything. I’ll always remember the happiness, sweat and smiles on
players like Henry Sylva, Ethan Tran, James Markham, Jude Kalifa and
Gabriel LaRosa whom I have been lucky enough to coach over the years.
Our
goal each year is to find as much parity in our teams as possible,
which is often a tall order. This year, the stars aligned and we almost got
it right. Each Saturday and Sunday afternoon as the scores rolled in I
was often shocked. As Philadelphians we can’t help but root for the
underdog and on any given weekend our wishes came true. We hope that
your family enjoyed a competitive Taney basketball season and the camaraderie that naturally comes along with Taney basketball.
Beginning
this Friday we will get to see our little ballers compete for the Taney
NBA 11-12 Championship. Your Coaches will provide your team the most
updated playoff information including seeding, bracket and schedule. We
have no doubt that this will be a playoffs to remember, filled with the
love and support of a fabulous group of families.
Parental Behavior
We remind you that you are watching children, in an instructional league, vie for a Championship among their friends, classmates, and neighbors.
Your behavior and your words will set the tone for this playoff season.
Be positive and encouraging at all times. Please allow our children a positive end to the season---no matter the score.
We will not tolerate any behavior that is in any way inflammatory. If you act inappropriately, you will be asked to leave the gym.
NBA 11-12 Taney Coaches
The
joy of this season could only be accomplished with the steadfast
commitment of our Coaches. Each have been invaluable in keeping the
season competitive and positive, therefore, please remember to thank our
Coaches when you see them in the upcoming weekends.
Bucks: Jack Post, Bill McManus
Raptors: Robert Taylor, Bernard Williams
Sixers: Libbi Skivo, Jon Skivo
Bulls: Tim Creech, Dewey LaRosa
Celtics: Jonathan Neely
Hawks: Matthew Liebman, Adam Solow
Nets: Brendan Tierney, Chrissy McDermott
A special Thank You to Jack and Bill who will retire their positions in the NBA 11-12 after MANY seasons
devoting their time to coaching our children in Taney and to possibly
move into the real NBA with their talented sons who age out of our
beloved league.
All-Star Game
Each
year we honor a Taney tradition and congratulate the All Stars of our
league with a special, exhibition game. This year our All Stars will
play on Sunday, March 8th at 2:20PM at Phieldhouse. This is
immediately following the Championship game. All are welcome to support
our All Stars, many of whom have learned to play basketball as a
part of the Taney organization. Again, if you see these players in the
upcoming weekends, please remember to congratulate each of them:

Sportsmanship Award
Also, this year we continue the tradition of Honoring our league and our children with a goal of aspiring to win the League’s Sportsmanship Award. The Coaches were briefed on this award before the season began with instruction to their players that respect, hustle and a consistently positive attitude would be considered as the determination for this Sportsmanship award. Only one player will receive this honor. However, each of the following players have received a nomination for this extremely elite award.
Please,
if you don’t remember to congratulate anyone on the email above, please
make it a point to congratulate each of the young men below. These
athletes have earned our tremendous respect and each of their families
should be incredibly proud.
We will announce the winner of the Sportsmanship Award at the All Star Game.
