Baseball and Tee-ball are offered for all boys and girls ages 3 to 12 (age as of August 31 of the current year), as follows:
PEE WEE: Ages 3-4 (bat off tee) - Sunday mornings for about an hour, at Taney, Palumbo, Shot Tower, or another one of our fields. Details appear below:
Pee Wee (ages 3-4 as of August 31st of this year)
Pee Wee is a low-key first introduction to baseball, for 3- and 4-year-old players. The kids get together for about 45 minutes to an hour every Sunday. They stretch and warm up, roll the ball to each other, catch and throw, bat and run the bases, eat snack. There are no official games against other teams. Teams are assembled by age (with consideration to gender, neighborhood, and other factors), and we aim for a span of perhaps 6 months or so on a given team. Actual games against other teams begin in our Tee-Ball program, for players who are 5 or 6.
Pee Wee teams play at "Taney" (Markward) Field, at approximately 26th & Pine Streets or Palumbo Field, at 10th & Fitzwater. Once your child is on a team, he or she will play at the same field at the same time every Sunday. As a general guideline, teams of 3-year-old's play at 9:00 am, while teams of 4-year-old's play at 10:00 am, (although occasionally there are exceptions). This allows the older teams to begin playing mini-games against each other toward the end of the season.
The registration fee is $175.00 ($180.00 for families residing outside of our Little League geographical boundaries), with a discount of $10.00 for each additional child in the same family. The registration fee includes everything for the season. Your child will receive a team jersey and cap (which you may keep), and a trophy at the end of the season. We provide bats, balls, bases, and all other equipment. Pee Wee players do not even use baseball gloves, so there is no cost to you beyond the registration fee.
Pee Wee teams begin play on the Sunday of Opening Weekend, and play every Sunday at the same time, same field, weather permitting, except for Memorial Day weekend and Easter Sunday, until Closing Day.
TEE BALL: Ages 5-6 (bat off tee) - weekend games (one or two games per weekend) & one evening of practice a week (scheduled between 5:00 and 8:00 pm). Details are below.
Our Tee-Ball program is for children who are 5 or 6 as of August 31st of this year. Teams are mixed with 5 and 6 year olds on each team. There is a practice one evening a week for about an hour -- depending on the team, the practice might be at 5:30 or 6:00 or even 6:30, and might be at Taney (Markward, approximately 26th & Pine Streets), Columbus Square (12th & Wharton), Starr Garden (6th & Lombard), or another field. The locations for the fields are on the Fields page under Our League, on our website, www.TaneyBaseball.com. With 16-18 teams each season, we have approximately 4-5 teams practicing each week night, and there is a place on the online registration form where you can indicate if your child is not available to practice on any given evening of the week. Practices generally begin the last week of March, so that the players are ready for games on Opening Weekend.
Tee-Ball has a 12-game season, and all games are on weekends. Since there are approximately 8 or 9 weekends in the season (we don't play on Memorial Day weekend or on Easter Sunday), half of the weekends there is a game on Saturday or Sunday, and the other weekends there is one game Saturday and one game Sunday. Games might be scheduled on Saturdays any time between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm; on Sundays games might be between 11:00 am and 5:00 pm. Each team receives a game schedule before the season begins. If a Tee-Ball game is rained-out, it is not rescheduled, as there are no standings or playoffs. We try to somewhat "balance" the schedule, such that, for example, no one team has mostly early morning or evening games. We also balance the schedule so that each team has games at several different fields. To see actual team schedules, please go to the Schedules page of our website, under Current Season: http://taneybaseball.com/CurrentSeason/Schedules.aspx
